Majorca Holidays – A Little Something For Everyone

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

In a recent survey, Spain looks set to remain a favourite destination for British holidaymakers this year, even though other destinations are proving to be cheaper as the Euro - the currency used by Spain - has increased in value against the British Pound, making Spanish holidays considerably more expensive this year than last. Holidays in Spain have been popular since the advent of jet travel made cheap holidays possible for the masses.
One of Spanish holiday island that’s doing well is Majorca. Also known as Mallorca, the island really started to develop as a tourist hot spot as far back as the 1920s. Today, majorca sees more than six million visitors each year, yet ninety-five percent of vacationers concentrate in only five percent of its territory. Majorca is known as the Mediterranean Lady and it offers a little something for everyone.
The island of Majorca is one destination that has worked hard to widen it’s appeal from just the traditional beach holiday during the summer months of June to August. The holidays in majorca now thrives from early Spring to late Autumn by offering sports and hobby related breaks for, amongst others, bird watchers, artists, kite surfers, walkers, mountain bikers, road cyclists, golfers and motor cycle tourists. Each sport may seem relatively niche but if you visit Majorca outside of the peak summer months you’ll find thousands of people enjoying the warm climate and island hospitality at the same time as pursing their favourite pastime.
Some of the most popular/best holiday resorts in Majorca are Puerto Pollensa, Alcudia, Palma, Formentor, etc. Some visitors like the island so much they decide to look into buying an apartment or villa, with some even retiring to the island, or buying a business.
Spain is still number one for British holidaymakers, with the Scottish people especially still choosing Spain above anywhere else. Although Majorca holidays might be a little more expensive this year, but it seems people are willing to pay the price.
